LM24: Derde uur Audi nummer 08 crashed hard in de vangrail

Het leek erop dat ook dit uur zonder grote incidenten zou verlopen, maar dat veranderde toen de Loïc Duval, Audi nummer 08, met een veel te hoge snelheid op een slow-zone afreed. Daar waar de anderen vaart terugnamen deed de Audi met nummer 08 dat niet met een harde crash in de vangrail tot als gevolg. Wonder boven wonder was er niets dan schade aan het bodywork en kon de Audi niet alleen op eigen kracht terugkeren naar de pits maar ook nog relatief snel zijn weg weer vervolgen.

Voor deze zware crash leek Audi meer grip op de race te krijgen. Daar waar er bij Porsche en Toyota meerdere rijders en bandenwissels waren, hebben ze bij Audi geopteerd om alleen diesel te tanken. Tot het moment dat André Lotterer een lekke band kreeg leek alles te gaan volgens planning. Lotterer moest daarom al vroeg weer terug naar de pits wat hem de leiding van de wedstrijd kostte. Bij de tweede stop is André Lotterer uitgestapt, zijn teamgenoot Benoit Treyuler was nog maar kort onderweg toen hij kort buiten het circuit kwam en zelfs daarbij de vangrail raakte. Zonder zichtbare schade kon hij zijn weg weer vervolgen.

Sebastien Buemi, Nico Hülkenberg, Alexander Wurz en Neel Jani zijn allen uitgestapt. Anthony Davidson is één van de coureurs die is ingestapt.

De nummer 29 auto van Ho-Pin Tung, die niet achter het stuur zat, is ook even buiten het circuit maar kan zelf zijn weg weer vervolgen. Jeroen Bleekemolen leidt in zijn klasse, Xavier Maassen rijdt op de 49ste positie rond.
