Porsche ook in Austin met zege aan de haal

Porsche heeft ook getriomfeerd in de 6 uur op het Circuit of the Americas nabij Austin. De auto met startnummer 17, bemand door Mark Webber, Brendon Hartley en Timo Bernhard was net als op de Nürburgring de beste. De andere Porsche kende problemen en finishte als twaalfde.

Het podium bevatte daardoor beide LMP1-inschrijvingen van Audi. Marcel Fässler, Benoit Treluyer en Andre Lotterer eindigden voor Lucas di Grassi, Loic Duval en Oliver Jarvis als tweede. De beste Toyota legde beslag op P4. De andere Toyota viel uit na een crash van Mike Conway in bocht 11.

In de LMP2-klasse was de Ligier-Nissan van Roman Rusinov, Julien Canal en Sam Bird de beste. Voor Porsche was het dubbel feest, want bij de GT's waren het Richard Lietz en Michael Cristensen die er in de 911 met de winst vandoor gingen.
