Catsburg opgeroepen voor voorbereidingstest 24 uur van Le Mans

WTCC-coureur Nick Catsburg is opgeroepen door het Labre Chevrolet-team om deel te nemen aan de test die dit weekend wordt gehouden ter voorbereiding op de 24 uur van Le Mans. Naast zijn WTCC-activiteiten voor Lada is Catsburg officiële fabrieksrijder voor BMW.

Catsburg is opgeroepen om de Larbre Competition GTE AM Corvette C7.R te testen. Het is niet zeker of Catsburg ook de race zal rijden, mogelijk is de test de voorbereiding op een deelname aan de beroemde 24 uurs-race omdat vaste rijder Paulo Roberti geblesseerd is. Roberti raakte afgelopen donderdag gewond bij een clinic voor jonge coureurs op de Hockenheimring. Roberti liep verwondingen op aan zijn rug die hem minimaal een maand aan de kant zullen houden.

Catsburg over zijn mogelijk last-minute deelname aan de 24 uur van Le Mans dit jaar: "Ik werd afgelopen donderdag gebeld door het team. Ik heb verder geen connecties met dit team, wel reed ik in 2011 in het FIA GT1-kampioenschap en ik heb toen mensen bij Chevrolet leren kennen. Ik heb nog geen idee of ik de race ook zal rijden. Uiteraard sta ik te popelen om hier ook dit jaar weer te racen."

Verplichte kost voor een deelname aan Le Mans is de simulatortest die gisteren in Parijs werd gehouden. De test is verplicht voor debuterende coureurs in een klasse. Omdat Catsburg nog niet eerder in de Am-klasse op Le Mans heeft gereden, moest de Nederlander deze test ondergaan.

Dat Catsburg deel kan nemen aan de test is een gelukkige samenloop van omstandigheden. Catsburg zou dit weekend een race moeten rijden in de IMSA SportsCar Championship, maar zijn team Black Swan Porsche GT Daytona trok zich terug vanwege familieomstandigheden bij teambaas Tim Pappas. Catsburg was vanwege het niet kunnen rijden in de IMSA SportCars al bijna rond met een team om dit weekend te rijden in de ADAC GT Masters op de Lausitzring.

De 24 uur van Le Mans vindt jaar plaats op 18 en 19 juni en valt samen met het Formule 1-weekend in Baku.
