Porsche voegt Lotterer, Bamber en Tandy aan line-up 2017 toe

Porsche heeft Andre Lotterer, Nick Tandy en Earl Bamber aangekondigd als coureurs voor haar 2017 LMP1 programma. Lotterer reed de afgelopen jaren voor Audi, maar dat merk keert volgend jaar niet terug in het World Endurance Championship. Porsche besloot na het stoppen van Mark Webber dat er ook geen plaats meer is voor Marc Lieb en Romain Dumas.

Tandy en Bamber komen over vanuit de GT klasse, beide heren wonnen de 24 uur van Le Mans in 2015 samen met Formule 1-coureur Nico Hülkenberg. Lotterer gaat een team vormen met Nick Tandy en Neel Jani, terwijl Bamber een auto gaat delen met Brendon Hartley en Timo Bernhard.

Three-time Le Mans winner and 2012 WEC title winner Lotterer and Tandy will share the #1 Porsche 919 Hybrid next year with reigning champion Neel Jani, who took the crown and victory at Le Mans with Dumas and Lieb. Romain Dumas krijgt een plekje in het GT-programma van Porsche, als is de exacte invulling van het programma nog niet bekend.

Marc Lieb blijft werkzaam voor Porsche, maar zal zich richten op een interne functie bij Porsche. Lotterer zou daarnaast een aanbieding hebben gehad om voor Audi te blijven racen in DTM, maar de Duitser heeft er voor gekozen actief te willen blijven in het WEC.
