Geblesseerde Lopez ontbreekt bij 6 uur van Spa

Jose Maria Lopez moet de 6 uur van Spa-Francorchamps van komend weekend aan zich voorbij laten gaan. De Argentijn heeft bij een ongeluk tijdens de seizoensopener op Silverstone twee gebroken ruggenwervels opgelopen en kan dus niet van start gaan. De Toyota met startnummer 7 zal op Spa-Francorchamps bemand worden door Kamui Kobayashi en Mike Conway.

Lopez: "Ik ben extreem teleurgesteld om de race van dit weekend te missen, want ik had me zo verheugd om te racen met de Toyota TS050 Hybrid op Spa. Ik voel me op zich prima, maar we hebben besloten om geen risico's te nemen. De prioriteit is om fit te geraken voor de 24 uur van Le Mans. Op een ander circuit had ik misschien kunnen rijden, maar de krachten door bijvoorbeeld Eau Rouge zijn zo heftig dat we na overleg met de FIA-arts besloten hebben dat ik dit weekend niet in actie kom."

Toyota illegaal?

Ondertussen heeft concurrent Porsche bij de internationale autosport FIA en WEC-promotor ACO aangedrongen om opheldering gevraagd over de achterkant van de Toyota TS050 Hybrid. Auto Motor und Sport meldt dat de diffuser van Toyota volgens de Duitse sportwagenfabrikant illegaal is. Toyota won vorige maand de 6 uur van Silverstone en lijkt de zaakjes momenteel beter voor elkaar te hebben dan Porsche.
