DragonSpeed en Manor maken stap naar LMP1-klasse

Europese Le Mans Series-kampioen 10Star DragonSpeed voegt zich komend seizoen bij de LMP1-klasse in het World Endurance Championship, zo heeft de renstal aangekondigd. Dat is goed nieuws voor het WEC, dat door het aanstaande vertrek van Porsche met een uitgedund veld voor de LMP1-klasse over dreigde te blijven.

DragonSpeed vult het magere aantal hoeveelheid deelnemers in de LMP1 in elk geval aan voor het 'superseizoen' 2018/2019. Teambaas Elton Julian: "Het hele team is opgewonden en klaar voor deze uitdaging. Na sportscars-titels in de GT3 en LMP2 was een vervolg in de LMP1 niet meer dan logisch voor onze getalenteerde en gemotiveerde renstal. We bestuderen zorgvuldig met welke partners we een programma kunnen samenstellen dat ons progressie en succes oplevert. De neuzen staan allemaal dezelfde kant op wat betreft het pakket en de aanpak die we nodig hebben. We kunnen niet wachten om van start te gaan."

Daar komt meer goed nieuws bij voor het WEC; ook CEFC Manor TRS Racing heeft bekendgemaakt dat het voor het volgende seizoen de overstap maakt naar de LMP1-klasse. Dat deed directeur Graeme Lowdon op een persconferentie op weg naar de 6 uur van Sjanghai van komend weekend. De renstal slaat voor het LMP1-project de handen ineen met Ginetta Cars.

  Kijk de laatste edities van de 24h van Le Mans nog maar eens terug. Daar gebeurden toch dingen die zelfs de grootste fantast nog niet had kunnen bedenken. Dus om nou te zeggen dat het kat in het bakkie is voor Toyota?

  Hoezo geen concurrentie.. De regels gaan op de schop om er zo voor te zorgen dat de niet hybride auto's en hybride auto's gelijkwaardig worden. Het wil dus helemaal niet zeggen dat Toyota de beste auto heeft.
