Toyota's op 1 en 2 in rommelige 6 uur van Shanghai

Voor de vierde keer dit seizoen heeft Toyota een race in het WEC gewonnen. De #7 Toyota van Kamui Kobayashi, José Maria Lopez en Mike Conway waren tijdens een rommelige 6 uur van Shanghai, die meerdere keren stilgelegd werd, beter dan de zusterbolide met #8 van Fernando Alonso, Sebastien Buemi en Kazuki Nakajima.

Het regende hard in China en dat zorgde voor problemen in de openingsfase van de race. Tot twee keer toe werd de race stilgelegd en pas in het vierde uur werden de omstandigheden goed genoeg voor echte actie. De Toyota met startnummer 8 leidde aanvankelijk, maar de nummer 7 pakte de leiding daarna door een pitstop te maken op het moment dat alle auto's door de pits moesten rijden. Na een late safety car werd het verschil weer even heel klein, maar de Toyota's wisselden niet meer van positie. Conway, Lopez en Kobayashi pakten daarmee hun tweede zege op rij.

Achter Alonso, Buemi en Nakajima pakte de #11 SMP BR Engineering 1 haar eerste podium van het seizoen met Jenson Button, Mikhail Aleshin en Vitaly Petrov achter het stuur.

In de LMP2-klasse was er succes voor Jackie Chan DC Racing. Ho-Pin Tung, Stephane Richelmi en Gabriel Aubry pakten hun tweede zege van het seizoen. Op veertien ronden achterstand werden Nyck de Vries, Frits van Eerd en Giedo van der Garde vijfde in hun klasse namens Racing Team Nederland.

Bij de GTE Pro's wonnen Marco Sorensen en Nicki Thiim in hun #95 Aston Martin Vantage, terwijl Porsche het dagsucces pakte bij de GTE Am's. De #77 Dempsey Proton-bolide van Christian Ried en Matt Campbell was de snelste in die klasse.

Wat heeft die Alonso boter op zijn hoofd... nee de F1 is ziek want aan kop zijn er maar 6 autos die mee doen voor de overwinning... hoeveel doen er in het WEC mee voor de overwinning??? Jah daar achter is het leuk en spannend... goh hoe is het in de F1 achter de top 6???

Kan die Van Eerd eigenlijk een beetje meekomen, of zijn zijn rondetijden met afstand het slechts van het team?

  Als je verder kijkt dan alleen Alonso en Toyota, is het wel degelijk leuker dan de F1. Overal zijn er constant gevechten en auto's kunnen elkaar volgen waardoor er close racing is.

  Dan kijk ik liever een potje karten hier op de plaatselijke baan. 6 uur is mij teveel van het goede.

Ja nu kunnen ze wel, in het tijdperk met Porsche en Audi konden ze het technisch en op betrouwbaarheid niet bijbenen. Nu helemaal geen echte competitie meer voorhanden.
