'Hypercar-reglement' WEC afgerond, Aston Martin treedt toe met Valkyrie

Vlak voor de 24 uur van Le Mans van komend weekend heeft de ACO onthuld hoe de reglementen voor het FIA WEC er vanaf 2020 uit gaan zien. Direct na de aankondiging van de 'hypercar-reglementen' maakte Aston Martin bekend zich in de hoogste klasse te gaan melden.

Momenteel is de LMP1-categorie de hoogste klasse binnen het WEC. Deze klasse is exclusief bedoeld voor prototypen, maar daar gaat in 2021 verandering in komen. Naast prototypes mogen er ook van hypercars afgeleide bolides ingeschreven gaan worden. Wel moeten er in een periode van twee jaar minimaal twintig straatwaardige auto's van het ontwerp geproduceerd worden.

Er is nog geen officiële naam voor de categorie bedacht, maar tijdens een presentatie in Le Mans gebruikte de ACO de naam 'hyper sport'. Het gewicht van de bolides in de klasse zal op 1100 kilogram komen te liggen, terwijl het vermogen op zo'n 750 pk komt te liggen. Hybride motoren zijn optioneel en er komt een systeem met strafgewichten, zoals ook in de GTE's het geval is. Het doel is om de rondetijden op Le Mans op zo'n 3 minuut 30 te laten uitkomen.

Valkyrie basis voor hypercar Aston Martin

Bij de presentatie van de plannen waren er nog geen fabrikanten die zich aangemeld hadden voor de klasse, maar niet veel later liet Aston Martin weten dat ze zich in de klasse zullen mengen. Het Britse merk is al in de GTE-klasse van het WEC actief en zal vanaf het seizoen 2020-2021, de eerste jaargang van de nieuwe reglementen, twee fabrieksauto's inzetten. Deze worden afgeleid van de Valkyrie, die hypercar die Adrian Newey voor Aston Martin ontworpen heeft.

  Wat betreft McLaren heb je helemaal gelijk, dat is niet de P1 maar de Senna ?

  MB P1, AM Valkyrie en meende ook de Porsche 918 gaan de 1000pk behoorlijk voorbij en er zullen er nog wel een paar zijn met 1000+ paarden onder de kap, en zullen als 750pk de grens is aardig terug worden geschroeft, waardoor ze volgens mij die wagens toch aardig moeten verbouwen.
  
  Goed, de P1, Valkyrie, 918, LaFerrari en dergelijk het tegen elkaar op nemen, hmm kan niet wachten om dat te zien :D
