Porsche evalueert terugkeer in LMDh-klasse

Porsche overpeinst een rentree in de hoogste categorie van het World Endurance Championship. Dat vernam Autosport van Pascal Zurlinden, motorsportbaas bij de Duitse sportwagenfabrikant. Porsche trok zich aan het einde van 2017 terug uit de LMP1-klasse in het WEC.

Organisator ACO gaat de krachten echter bundelen met de Amerikaanse evenknie, de IMSA. Samen stellen ze nieuwe reglementen op waardoor met dezelfde prototypes in beide series geracet kan worden. De hoogste klasse onder die nieuwe reglementen heet de LMDh.

De details daarvan zijn nog niet bekend, maar Porsche toont alvast interesse. Zurlinden: "Bestuurslid Michael Steiner is als hoofd Onderzoek & Ontwikkeling verantwoordelijk voor de autosportprogramma's van Porsche en hij heeft ons gevraagd te kijken naar wat mogelijk is."

"Porsche is serieus met een eventuele terugkeer in het WEC bezig, maar er zijn nog geen beslissingen genomen. De regels zijn nog niet gepubliceerd, maar dat is een kwestie van tijd nu de Automobile Club de l'Ouest en de IMSA momenteel ook gedwongen vanuit huis werken."

Een hele mooie kans om onder de nieuwe reglementen de budgetten flink te beteugelen en goed in de hand houden zodat het over een tijdje niet weer gierend uit de hand loopt.
