MotoGP-legende Rossi krijgt Hypercar-test

Sinds zijn vertrek uit de MotoGP heeft Valentino Rossi zijn vizier gericht op de autosport. De Italiaanse motorsport-legende rijdt sinds vorig jaar voor het team van WRT in de GT World Challenge Europe. Zijn ambities gaan echter verder dan dat en het lijkt erop dat hij binnenkort mag gaan testen met een LMDh.

Het team van WRT werkt sinds dit jaar immers samen met BMW. De samenwerking houdt onder meer in dat de coureurs in de GT World Challenge Europe gaan rijden met een BMW. De Belgische renstal zal tevens het Hypercar-programma van BMW in het World Endurance Championship gaat verzorgen vanaf 2024. BMW rijdt dit jaar al met hun LMDh-bolide in de Verenigde Staten.

Met de BMW M Hybrid V8 zal tevens worden getest in de komende maanden. Aangezien Rossi onder contract staat bij WRT kan hij mogelijk gaan rijden op bijvoorbeeld Le Mans. BMW M Motorsport-baas Andreas Roos spreekt zich erover uit bij Motorsport.com: "We zijn van plan om hem een kans te geven om te testen. We willen hem de kans geven om met een Hypercar te rijden. De GT3 is al fraai maar een Hypercar is van een ander niveau."
