Pescarolo keert terug naar Le Mans met Peugeot-hypercar

De introductie van de Hypercar-reglementen in het Word Endurance Championship lijkt vooralsnog een schot in de roos. Veel fabrikanten maken een wagen volgens de LMH-regels of de LMDh-regelementen. Niet alleen autobouwers vinden hun weg naar de Hypercar-klasse, ook legendarische privateers keren terug.

Dit jaar zijn er in het WEC en het IMSA, de Amerikaanse tegenhanger waar de Hypercars ook mogen deelnemen, zeer veel fabrikanten aanwezig. Naast de vertrouwde naam van Toyota nemen dit seizoen ook onder andere Ferrari, Cadillac, Porsche, BMW en Peugeot deel in de twee grote endurancekampioenschappen. Het veld in het World Endurance Championship wordt echter steeds breder.

Gisteren werd namelijk duidelijk dat de iconische naam van Pescarolo terugkeert in de hoogste klasse van het WEC. De Franse formatie heeft sinds een aantal jaar een nieuwe eigenaar en die heeft nu zijn ogen gericht op het aanstaande seizoen. Pescarolo gaat vanaf volgend seizoen deelnemen aan het WEC met in ieder geval één Peugeot. De Franse formatie heeft een deal gesloten met Peugeot en zal dus een Peugeot 9X9 gaan inzetten in het kampioenschap.
