Bandenwarmers keren eenmalig terug op Le Mans

Volgende maand staat de 24 uur van Le Mans weer op de planning. Door het grote Hypercar-startveld is de aandacht voor de autosportklassieker groter dan ooit. De organisatie heeft last minute wel ingegrepen en men heeft na eerdere problemen een belangrijke regelwijziging doorgevoerd.

Tijdens de 24 uur van Le Mans mogen de teams namelijk weer gebruik gaan maken van bandenwarmers. De kritiek op deze regelwijziging was niet mals. Tijdens de 6 uur van Spa werd namelijk duidelijk dat de koude banden voor veel problemen zorgden. In de race en de kwalificatie ging het namelijk meerdere keren flink mis. Ferrari-coureur Antonio Fuoco verloor bijvoorbeeld de macht over het stuur van zijn hypercar toen hij de pitlane kwam uitrijden tijdens de race.

De FIA en Le Mans-organisator Automobile Club de l'Ouest hebben voor de legendarische 24uursrace actie ondernomen. Eenmalig mogen de teams nu namelijk gebruik gaan maken van bandenwarmers, in de resterende wedstrijden op de kalender van het World Endurance Championship is dit echter niet het geval. De beslissing is gemaakt om een zo'n veilig mogelijke omgeving te creëren voor de teams en de coureurs. De regelwijziging geldt voor alle klassen op Le Mans.
