Ferrari claimt pole position voor 24 uur van Le Mans

Aankomend weekend wordt de iconische 24 uur van Le Mans verreden. De volledige startopstelling voor de race is nu bekend, de zogenaamde Hyperpole-kwalificatie werd afgewerkt in de drie klassen. Het team van Ferrari greep zijn kans en claimde de volledige eerste startrij voor de race.

In de Hyperpole-kwalificatie jagen de acht snelste auto's per klasse om de pole position. Op woensdag werd de normale kwalificatie verreden en kwalificeerden de snelste wagens zich voor de Hyperpole. Bij de Hypercar-klasse ging gisteren de pole naar de Ferrari met startnummer 50. Antonio Fuoco noteerde de snelste tijd en was bijna een seconde sneller dan de zusterauto met startnummer 51.

De Cadillac met startnummer 8 kende een vervelende kwalificatie. De wagen, die ook wordt bestuurd door Renger van der Zande, viel in de slotminuten stil aangezien er iets in de brand stond. De snelste Toyota start de race morgen op de derde plaats, de Porsche met startnummer 75 en de Toyota nummer 7 maken de top vijf compleet. In de LMP2-klasse werd de pole gepakt door de auto van IDEC Sport. De Prema nummer 9 van onder meer Bent Viscaal zal de race als zevende gaan starten in de LMP2-klasse. In de GTE Am-klasse ging de pole naar de Corvette van Nicky Catsburg.

Hier is de complete startgrid te zien.
Toen de wagen van Renger vlam vatte stonden ze op de 3e plaats.
Ze zijn daardoor naar de 8e plaats geschoven. (hyperpole)

Alles wat je van Ferrari verwacht wordt met klasse en overtuiging bevestigd in het WEC.
Na 50 jaar afwezigheid (in de hoogste klasse) maakten ze een herintrede. Gek dat een budgetcap in de F1 er intrinsiek voor zorgde dat Ferrari een oplossing diende te vinden voor de vele medewerkers. Moedig en ergens ook een teken van loyauteit, tegelijk ook slim gebruik makend van de opportuniteit om in de serie te stappen.

Met verve. De Hyper Pole van gisteren was geen lucky shot.
AF Corse Ferrari is natuurlijk geen 'new kid on the block', maar om het seizoen vastberaden en op zo'n operationele sterke manier stilaan een ware bedreiging vormen voor Toyota (dat in tijd best een grote voorsprong had qua ontwikkeling en ook effectieve ervaring met hun bolides) is echt wel heel knap.

Ok, er is nog geen Km van de race gereden, maar ze staan er en ik hoop dat het Hyper Car Ferrari team de tifosi kunnen geven waar ze bij de F1 enorm op hun honger blijven.

Ik ga alvast, zoals elk jaar, voor elke wagen met het Steigerend Paard op, supporteren!

  Je moet niet vergeten dat Toyota met 37 kg extra balast moet rijden om het veld dichter bij elkaar te krijgen. Ferrari heeft 24 kg extra balast.

  Voorlopig is Ferrari nog geen enkele maal in staat geweest om Toyota serieus uit te dagen.

  Poll zegt in Lemans niets, vaak genoeg heeft een auto op poll gestaan die na twee rondes terugvalt en niet meer in het hoofdstuk voor komt….

Het is natuurlijk mooi dat er een spannendere strijd is nu met Ferrari en Porsche (Peugeot valt zwaar tegen), maar Toyota wordt wel een beetje tegengewerkt met de BoP. Anders zouden ze waarschijnlijk gewoon vooraan staan, Denk ook wel dat ze gaan winnen.
