Toyota uitgeroepen tot winnaar op doorweekt Fuji

Toyota heeft de World Endurance Championship-race in eigen land op haar naam geschreven. Kazuki Nakajima, Nicolas Lapierre en Alexander Wurz werden uitgeroepen tot winnaar in Japan. De 6 uur van Fuji duurde echter maar 3 uur en 46 minuten.

Het weer was de grote spelbreker op de flanken van Mount Fuji. De start van de wedstrijd was al uitgesteld en elke poging om het racen op gang te brengen strandde. Na drie safety car-periodes en slechts zestien rondjes is de boel afgevlagd door de aanhoudend slechte weersomstandigheden en de intredende duisternis.

Door de korte afstand die was afgelegd werden halve punten uitgedeeld. De Audi met startnummer 2 van Tom Kristensen, Allan McNish en Loic Duval reed braaf achter de Toyota met startnummer 7 naar de tweede plek, genoeg voor de titel in het WEC.
