Van der Garde gaat voor podium in openingsweekend

Het autosportseizoen van Giedo van der Garde begint komend weekend op het circuit van Monza. De eerste twee races van het World Series by Renault-kampioenschap vinden plaats op de Italiaanse baan. Van der Garde gaat dit jaar voor het kampioenschap met zijn nieuwe team P1 Motorsport en zette in de tests veelbelovende tijden. Nu is het zaak om het seizoen goed te beginnen.

Van der Garde: Ik heb er heel veel zin in. Het is al weer veel te lang geleden dat we onze laatste race reden en ik kan niet wachten om in Monza aan de slag te gaan. Het is vooraf natuurlijk moeilijk in te schatten waar we precies staan ten opzichte van de concurrentie, maar gezien onze prima verlopen tests in de winter is het niet onrealistisch om te zeggen dat we voor de top drie gaan, waarbij een overwinning natuurlijk geweldig zou zijn. Het belangrijkste is natuurlijk om tijdens de twee races zoveel mogelijk punten te scoren, zodat we gelijk goed op weg zijn.

We hebben hard gewerkt in de winter en we hebben ook veel geleerd. De nieuwe auto was even wennen, ik kwam bij een nieuw team, maar het is me allemaal uitstekend bevallen. Het team heeft enkele steengoede engineers, die dag en nacht werken om het maximale uit de auto te halen. Ik ben bijzonder tevreden met het werk tot nu toe en ik kijk enorm uit naar de eerste races van het seizoen!
