Pic wint in Monaco, van der Garde doet goede zaken

Fransman Charles Pic heeft vanmorgen zijn eerste wedstrijd gewonnen in de Renault World Series. Pic hield het hoofd koel in de moeilijke omstandigheden en hield kampioenschapsleider Giedo van der Garde (foto) achter zich. De Nederlander doet met een tweede plek wel goede zaken voor het kampioenschap.

Na een start van pole position heeft de 18-jarige Pic een overduidelijk voordeel van een vrije baan zonder spray. Van der Garde volgt hem echter goed en deelt bij iedere herstart na een safety car-periode lichte tikjes uit. De Nederlander komt echter nooit dichtbij genoeg voor een echte aanval. Pic: "Ik kwam naar Monaco met het doel om punten te scoren. Toen ik opeens onverwacht de pole position pakte, was het zaak mijn werk goed te doen."

Fairuz Fauzy kan het tempo van de leiders niet volgen, maar zet zijn mooie derde startplaats om in de laatste podiumplek bij zijn terugkeer in de World Series. Pic's teamgenoot Julien Jousse eindigt als vierde, voor Bertrand Baguette.

De race-uitslag volgt zo spoedig mogelijk.
