Duncan Tappy vervangt Borja Garcia

Het Italiaanse RC Motorsport-team uit de Renault World Series heeft vandaag bekend gemaakt dat Duncan Tappy de vervanger is van Borja Garcia voor de rest van dit seizoen. De 23-jarige Brit won vorig jaar het Britse Formule Renault-kampioenschap en was dicht bij een deal met Fortec Motorsport, maar kon uiteindelijk geen budget vinden voor een compleet seizoen.

Recent kwam hij nog in actie bij de Le Mans Series in Monza, maar Tappy is uiteraard erg blij met de deal. "Ik ben erg opgelucht dat ik weer een racestoeltje heb weten te bemachtigen. Na zo'n succesvol jaar als vorig seizoen is het erg frustrerend zonder stoeltje te zitten. Er valt een last van mijn schouders nu ik iedereen kan laten zien wat ik kan in plaats van af te wachten wanneer ik mijn volgende race rijdt."

Tappy, twee keer een McLaren Autosport BRDC Award-finalist, hoopt bij zijn debuutrace meteen voorin mee te doen. "In Silverstone hebben we vrij veel tijd op de baan en ik ken de auto ook al een beetje dus het zal niet veel tijd kosten op snelheid te komen. Ik zou teleurgesteld zijn als ik ver verwijderd blijf van de snelheid vooraan het veld."

RC-teambaas Cristiano Giardina: "Toen Duncan bij ons in beeld kwam, heb ik zijn carriere eens geanalyseerd en dat beviel me wel. Ik ben ervan overtuigd dat hij ons kan geven wat we nodig hebben en het is ook goed voor ons aangezien we een moeilijk seizoen beleven. Het voelt als een nieuwe, frisse start."
