Giedo van der Garde op de eerste rij in Silverstone

Giedo van der Garde heeft in Silverstone tijdens de Super Pole-kwalificatie net naast de pole position gegrepen. Aanvankelijk zet de Nederlander zich op de voor hem bekende pole position, maar heeft uiteindelijk geen antwoord op de tijd van Canadees Robert Wickens. De A1 GP-coureur start vanaf pole, van der Garde vanaf de tweede positie. Het gat bedraagt iets meer dan twee tienden van een seconde.

Het Ultimate-team zet beide auto's voor het eerst dit seizoen in de Super Pole. Esteban Guerrieri, debuterend voor het team, stijgt boven zichzelf uit met de derde startplaats. Hij is daarmee meteen sneller dan zijn teamgenoot, voormalig Masters of F3-winnaar Fabio Carbone.

Winkens, momenteel op de negentiende plek in de stand, ziet dit resultaat als een nieuwe start van het seizoen. "Ik heb 40 ronden gereden op het International Circuit, maar dit is mijn eerste keer op het GP-circuit. Vertrouwen is heel belangrijk en ik hoop hier mijn kampioenschap opnieuw te starten. We zijn altijd snel geweest, maar raakten altijd verzeild in ongelukkige omstandigheden."
