Van der Garde mag eindelijk weer racen

Het World Series by Renault-seizoen heeft zeven weken stil gelegen, maar komend weekend mogen Giedo van der Garde en zijn collegas weer aan de bak. De Nederlander hervat zijn jacht op de titel op de Nürburgring. In Duitsland wil hij zijn voorsprong in het kampioenschap vergroten.

Van der Garde: Ik heb de afgelopen weken zeker niet stilgezeten. Ik heb een weekje vakantie gehad, maar ik ben ook een week in Finland geweest, waar ik met Heikki Kovalainen heb getraind. Dat was een indrukwekkende ervaring. Ze hebben in Finland een prachtig trainingscomplex, waar ze je helemaal kunnen doorlichten en kijken naar je fysieke gesteldheid. Aan de hand daarvan maken ze een trainingsprogramma wat dan speciaal op jou is afgesteld, waarmee je eventuele zwakke punten goed kan verbeteren.

Vervolgens hebben we getest in Engeland, waar we een beetje werden tegengewerkt door het weer. Ondanks dat heeft het team wel het nodige kunnen proberen en hebben we weer aardig wat nuttige informatie verzameld. Het zou ons moeten helpen voor de race op de Nürburgring, een mooi circuit met een technische eerste sector. Dit circuit zou ons goed moeten liggen, waardoor we weer flink wat punten kunnen scoren. Daar ligt de prioriteit.
