Carbone wint tweede race op rij, Giedo pakt podium

Fabio Carbone heeft vandaag zijn tweede overwinning op rij geboekt in de Renault World Series. Carbone zegevierde al eerder op de Hungaroring bijna twee maanden geleden. Fairuz Fauzy eindigt als tweede, gevolgd door kampioenschapsleider Giedo van der Garde.

De beslissing valt al meteen in de eerste bocht. Carbone remt Fauzy uit en pakt de leiding. Carbone: "We maakten een aantal fouten in de Super Pole zodat ik niet alles eruit heb gehaald wat erin zat. In de race had de auto een goede balans en de remmen waren perfect. Daardoor slaagde ik erin Fairuz uit te remmen."

Niet iedereen komt heelhuids door de eerste bocht. De chaos ontstaat als Alvaro Barba in aanraking komt met Miguel Molina. De laatste wordt de lucht in getorpedeerd en beide Spanjaarden vallen uit. Daarachter gaat de chaos verder. Marco Bonanomi wordt geraakt door Charles Pic, waardoor Bonanomi een opstopping creëert van maar liefst zeven auto's. Geluksvogels in dit geval zijn Giedo van der Garde en Esteban Guerrieri, die respectievelijk als derde en vierde aan de finish komen.

Nadat de safety car naar binnen is gegaan ligt Julien Jousse op de derde plaats. Hij zet een tijdje Fauzy onder druk voor de tweede plaats, totdat Jousse de controle over zijn wagen verliest in de Dunlop haarspeldbocht. Jousse valt uit en geeft een regelrecht cadeau aan Giedo van der Garde, die zijn voorsprong in het kampioenschap ziet groeien tot 53 punten. De Nederlander kent zelf een even hectische als gelukkige laatste fase van de race. Salvador Duran geeft hem een plek cadeau door wijd te schieten in de eerste bocht. Esteban Guerrieri doet vier bochten later exact hetzelfde, waardoor de weg wordt vrijgemaakt voor een podiumplek voor de Nederlander.

Duran gaat vervolgens nog in de fout door de grindbak in te schieten bij een inhaalpoging op Guerrieri. Hij verliest daardoor ook nog een plek aan Mikhail Aleshin en eindigt uiteindelijk als zesde.
