Salvador Duran wint op de Nurburgring

Salvador Duran heeft vanmiddag op de Nurburgring de tweede race in de Renault World Series gewonnen. Duran maakt een goede start vanaf de eerste rij en remt Giedo van der Garde uit in de eerste bocht. Vanaf dat moment is de strijd zeker nog niet gestreden, maar een langzame pitstop bij de Nederlander maakt een einde aan Van der Gardes podiumaspiraties. Het linkerachterwiel geeft problemen en zijn stop duurt ongeveer zes seconden langer dan die van Duran. Uiteindelijk finisht Van der Garde als achtste, op zeven seconden van de winnaar.

Duran is natuurlijk uitermate blij met zijn resultaat en denkt dat zijn team de setup-problemen heeft overwonnen. "Na de nulscore in Hongarije ben ik blij om te zien dat het team een manier heeft gevonden om de auto goed te laten werken."

Miguel Molina eindigt als tweede en houdt Julien Jousse nipt achter zich. Ook de teamgenoot van Molina, Alvaro Barba, doet goede zaken met een vierde plek. Barba zet met twee prachtige inhaalmanouvres Bertrand Baguette en Michael Bonanomi aan de kant.

Julien Jousse scoort zijn vierde podiumplek van dit seizoen, maar is nog steeds op zoek naar een overwinning. "Salvador heeft het behoorlijk spannend gemaakt in het kampioenschap, maar mijn zelfvertrouwen is gegroeid door dit resultaat na mijn grote fout van gisteren. Ik hoop een grote stap vooruit te maken tijdens mijn thuisrace in Le Mans."

Giedo van der Garde's voorsprong in het kampioenschap is iets geslonken tot 48 punten, maar daarachter is het spannender. Salvador Duran staat nu op slechts een punt van Julien Jousse.
