Charles Pic wint in Le Mans, Van der Garde niet van start

De 18-jarige Fransman Charles Pic heeft de eerste race in de Renault World Series in Le Mans op zijn naam geschreven. Pic ging als derde van start en pakt de leiding na een inhaalmanouvre op James Walker. Het is overigens de tweede overwinning van Pic na zijn eerdere succes in Monte-Carlo.

Walkers race is in de zeventiende ronde voorbij als hij een lekke band oploopt. Miguel Molina erft de tweede plek, voor Fabio Carbone en diens teamgenoot Esteban Guerrieri. De zes auto's van plaats twee tot zeven zitten extreem dichtbij elkaar: aan de finish is het verschil nog geen drie seconden.

Giedo van der Garde kent een baaldag. Koppelingsproblemen verhinderen de start voor de Nederlander, waardoor hij blijft staan op 116 punten. Fabio Carbone heeft de tweede plek in de stand overgenomen van Julien Jousse, maar het verschil met Van der Garde bedraagt nog altijd 46 punten.
