Van der Garde na behaalde titel: "Geweldig!"

Giedo van der Garde zorgde gisteren voor Hollands glorie in de World Series by Renault. De Nederlander bekroonde een fantastisch seizoen met de titel in de opstapklasse. Het gat met de nummer twee is inmiddels zo groot dat de P1 Motorsport-coureur in het laatste weekend in Barcelona niet meer ingehaald kan worden.

Van der Garde is vanzelfsprekend in een euforische stemming. Geweldig!, zei hij na afloop van race 2 op het circuit van Estoril. Het weekend begon natuurlijk niet zo goed, maar uiteindelijk vertrekken we wel met het kampioenschap. Een fantastisch gevoel! Ik had een geweldige start en lag direct achtste. Vervolgens kreeg ik al snel te horen dat Fabio Carbone, mijn belangrijkste concurrent, uit de race lag en dat ik dus kampioen was. Ik heb daarna nog wel een paar leuke gevechten geleverd, maar na de pitstop heb ik wat druk van de ketel gehaald en reed ik rustig naar de finish.
