Van der Garde crasht in laatste World Series-race

Giedo van der Garde was speciaal uit China teruggevlogen naar Barcelona om het slotakkoord van het voor hem zo succesvol verlopen World Series by Renault-seizoen mee te maken. Hij liet er zelfs een race in de GP2 Asia Series voor schieten. Zijn auto liet hem echter in de steek, al in de tweede ronde zorgde een mankement aan de bolide voor een flinke crash.

Van der Garde: Ik moest natuurlijk helemaal achteraan beginnen en startte vanuit de pitstraat. Ik had nog geen meter gereden en de eerste ronde waarin ik even goed aanzette, schoot de auto rechtdoor in de derde bocht. Het was een flinke klap en uit de data blijkt dat het zeker niet mijn schuld was, maar dit is natuurlijk zonde. Ik had graag nog wat ronden meegepikt. Het was een fantastisch jaar en ik wil hierbij nogmaals het hele team bedanken voor al het keiharde werk.
