Ellinas wint eerste race, De Vries vierde

Tio Ellinas heeft de eerste race van het Formule Renault 3.5-kampioenschap op Silverstone gewonnen. De Cyprioot vertrok van pole position en wist deze positie gedurende de race succesvol te verdedigen. Oliver Rowland en Matthieu Vaxiviere completeerden het podium, terwijl Nyck de Vries als vierde eindigde.

Beitske Visser had zich sterk gekwalificeerd voor de eerste race op Silverstone, maar de Nederlandse dame zag de finish niet. Visser werd getoucheerd en liep hierdoor een lekke band op. Meindert van Buuren was niet aanwezig op Silverstone. De Nederlander verving Daniel de Jong in het GP2-kampioenschap en had verplichtingen op het circuit van Monza.

De Vries staat met nog zeven races te gaan vijfde in de stand, maar de strijd is alles behalve gestreden. De Nederlander heeft slechts acht punten minder dan Jazeman Jaafar, die derde staat. Daarnaast voelt De Vries de adem in de nek van Tom Dillmann, die vier punten minder heeft dan de McLaren-junior.
