Belgische inschrijving voor de nieuwe WTCR

Het veld voor de nieuwe World Touring Car Cup - kortweg WTCR - begint langzaam maar zeker gestalte te krijgen. De eerste coureurs zijn inmiddels bekendgemaakt. Het Belgische Comtoyou Racing heeft zich verbonden aan de klasse die het gevolg is van een fusie tussen het World Touring Car Championship en de TCR International Series.

Comtoyou Racing heeft gelijk ook twee rijders voor 2018 vastgelegd. Het gaat om Denis Dupont van Belgische komaf en de Fransman Aurelien Panis, de zoon van oud Formule 1-coureur Olivier Panis. Dupont wordt ondersteund door de Belgische autosportbond, terwijl Aurelien Panis vorig jaar al zijn geluk beproefde in het WTCC en de TCR International Series.

Dupont: "Ik zal nooit mijn volledige dankbaarheid voor de buitengewone mogelijkheid die ik door de RACB en Comtoyou Racing geboden krijg kunnen uiten. Ik maak komend seizoen onderdeel uit van een grote internationale raceklasse, zal meer tijd dan ooit op de baan doorbrengen en mag een Audi RS3 LMS van Comtoyou Racing besturen. Ik hoop meermaals op het podium te eindigen."

Het eerste WTCR-seizoen gaat in het weekend van 7 en 8 april van start in Marrakesj.
