Tom Coronel helemaal onderaan bij testsessie

Tom Coronel hoopt komend seizoen op eremetaal in de nieuwe World Touring Car Cup, maar de testdag op het Circuit de Catalunya nabij Barcelona biedt wat dat betreft weinig hoop. De Nederlander was met een 1:56.847 de langzaamste van het 24 auto's tellende veld.

Vooraan maakten de Cupra's van Campos Racing de dienst uit. John Filippi hield teamgenoot Pepe Oriola op twee tienden, een 1:54.443 om een 1:54.698. Het gat naar Aurelien Panis op de derde plek was best groot. De Fransman gaf in zijn Audi RS 3 LMS een volle seconde toe op Filippi.

De laatste plaats baart Coronel overigens totaal geen zorgen. "Als je er gewicht uithaalt, dan heb je die seconde zo gevonden. Dat is geen probleem", verwees hij tegenover RTL GP naar de 1:55.893 die teamgenoot Benjamin Lessennes had laten noteren. "Aan het eind had ik geen run met vier nieuwe banden, maar met twee nieuwe banden. Nee, er zit nog wel wat in het vat. In Marrakech is iedereen écht gelijk en weten we pas echt hoe het ervoor staat."

Het WTCR-seizoen 2018 gaat volgende week (7-8 april) van start in Marokko.

      Tom was 24e, zijn(18 jarige) teamgenoot was 9e en een seconde sneller, de snelste Honda(Erlacher van het Munich team) was 6e

    Tom Coronel blaast wel hoog van de toren, moet nog maar zien dat die het waar kan maken in dit sterke veld. Dit is een hele andere competitie dan het WTCC.

    Lijkt mij erg leuk om naar te kijken!

      Jep, maar helaas gaat niemand het kijken. Erg jammer. Aan de moeite die Tom doet om he eea te promoten ligt het niet. Maar de waarheid is dat als het geen F1 is, de zenders niet staan te springen om het promoten van het eea. Het is ook jammer dat veel media ook ontzettend ouderwets zijn. Je zal ze bij Ziggo ook niet zo snel horen zeggen dat mensen naar het WTCR op RTL 7 moeten kijken, denk ik. Maar dat kan ik fout hebben. Ze promoten bijv. ook niet het DTM, Indy of Nascar terwijl dat allemaal op Ziggosport te zien is. Hooguit als ze een programma-staatje moeten opnoemen.

      Tsja, het is al heel wat wanneer het voorbij Max gaat, dus over andere racecompetities gaat er wel erg ver vanaf...
