Michelisz kiest voor een vervolg bij Hyundai

Norbert Michelisz vervolgt zijn loopbaan in de nieuwe World Touring Car Cup, die voortvloeit uit een fusie tussen het World Touring Car Championship en de TCR International Series. De Hongaar verruilt Honda komend seizoen voor Hyundai. Samen met oudgediende Gabriele Tarquini zal hij in 2018 voor BRC Racing uitkomen.

Michelisz: "Ik verlaat Honda niet met woede of kwade bedoelingen. Ik kan alleen maar dankbaar zijn voor de voorbije twee seizoenen. Honda heeft me de kans geboden om in het WTCC voor de titel te gaan. Ik bedank ze ook voor het begrip en de empathie voor mijn beslissing om voor 2018 in zee te gaan met Hyundai."

"De oorzaak voor deze overstap ligt vooral bij mezelf. Ik wil het vuur in mezelf brandende houden en net zo gemotiveerd blijven als ik in de tweede helft van het voorbije seizoen ben geweest. Ik had het gevoel dat ik daar een verandering van omgeving voor nodig had."

"Ik stond op een kruispunt, maar sinds ik de knoop doorgehakt heb en Hyundai mijn jawoord gegeven heb voelt het alsof ik weer aan het begin van mijn carrière sta. Ik ben tot op het bot gemotiveerd, het liefst zou ik morgen al in de auto springen om te testen. Soms is het goed om nieuwe uitdagingen aan te gaan en ik hoop dat deze overstap me helpt om een betere coureur te worden."
