Huff en Bennani het duo van Sebastien Loeb Racing

Sebastien Loeb Racing heeft Rob Huff en Mehdi Bennani vastgelegd voor het eerste seizoen van de nieuwe World Touring Car Cup, de WTCR. De twee coureurs krijgen dit jaar een Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR tot hun beschikking. Huff kent die auto al van zijn uitstapjes naar de TCR International Series in 2017. De WTCC-kampioen van 2012 verheugt zich dan ook op het komende seizoen in de WTCR.

Huff: "Het is geweldig om me bij het startveld voor de WTCR te voegen. Dezelfde mensen die dertien jaar lang het WTCC hebben gerund zitten achter dit kampioenschap. Het is ook fijn om de geweldige relatie die ik vorig jaar ben begonnen met Volkswagen nu voort te zetten. Sebastien Loeb Racing won de afgelopen twee jaar de privateers-titel in het WTCC en dat belooft veel goeds voor de WTCR, waar geen fabrieksteams aan deel zullen nemen."

"Mijn doel voor 2018 is dan ook om het kampioenschap te winnen. Ik ken alle circuits, aangezien de kalender bijna een kopie is van wat ik in het WTCC gewend was. Het is nu zaak om aan de slag te gaan met het team en de TCR-auto aan de WTCC-circuits aanpassen om vervolgens de best mogelijke resultaten te behalen."

Dit gaat echt een spectaculaire klasse worden om te volgen. Geen dominante fabrieksteams ,en maar liefst 26 vaste coureurs en 2 wild cards per raceweekend.

Grinnik, de enige dominantie is misschien die van VAG, want 90% van het deelnemersveld is gebaseerd op de Seat Leon Eurocup van een jaar of vier terug. Tuurlijk, inmiddels hebben ze een ander uiterlijk gekregen als Audi S3, VW Golf GTI en Seat Leon, maar het MQB fabriekje van VAG draaide ook hier op volle toeren. Gelukkig is er een stroming uit Azië actief met Honda, Hyundai en (misschien) Kia. Hopelijk krijgen Alfa en Volvo ook een team in de klasse. Ik vond die Giulietta waar vorig jaar Dusan Borkovic mee in de TCR international reed een heel mooi gezicht.
