Van Loon vol vertrouwen naar Paraguay

Nog tweeënhalve week tot de start van de zwaarste rally ter wereld in Asunción, Paraguay. Erik van Loon en Wouter Rosegaar zijn bezig met de laatste voorbereidingen voor Dakar 2017. Afgelopen week is er nog getest met de nieuwe Toyota Hilux Overdrive in Frankrijk, de auto wordt nu klaar gemaakt voor vertrek. De servicevoertuigen staan op de boot en varen momenteel op de Atlantische Oceaan.

"Het komt nu snel dichtbij", zegt Van Loon. "Afgelopen maandag hebben we bij Le Creusot getest met de auto. De Toyota is helemaal nieuw en net gebouwd, dus we moesten hem een keer goed 'warm' rijden en voelen wat de verschillen zijn met de auto in Marokko. Die zijn er zeker, deze is nóg agressiever en bruter. De Toyota Overdrive zou zomaar eens de verrassing van deze Dakar kunnen worden. Ze hebben de zaken goed voor elkaar, ik heb vertrouwen in een goed resultaat."

Ook Rosegaar kan niet wachten totdat hij in het vliegtuig naar Zuid-Amerika zit. "De test afgelopen maandag was goed voor ons. We gingen zitten en het ging weer meteen als vanouds. Op het parkoers konden we vooral de vering testen en natuurlijk even controleren of alle knopjes op de goede plek zaten et cetera. De laatste hand wordt nu gelegd aan de Toyota, de stickers komen er nu op en een paar details worden nog aangepast. Daarna gaat hij in het vliegtuig naar Zuid-Amerika waar hij over twee weken wordt opgehaald door de monteurs. Dan kan het avontuur eindelijk beginnen."

Dakar 2017 start op 31 december 2016 met de keuringen, op 1 januari 2017 vindt de podiumceremonie plaats in Asunción. Vanaf 2 januari begint de Dakar-rally met de eerste proef. Vanaf dat moment zetten de deelnemers koers naar La Paz in Bolivia waar op 8 januari de rustdag is. Daarna rijden ze naar Buenos Aires in Argentinië om op 14 januari te finishen. Van Loon en Rosegaar starten met nummer 310 op de Toyota Hilux Overdrive.
