Peru haalt de start voor Dakar 2018 binnen

De Dakar Rally gaat in 2018 van start. Dat kondigde Eduardo Ferreyros, de Peruaanse minister van Buitenlandse Handel en Toerisme, aan op een persconferentie. Peru steekt zo'n 6 miljoen dollar in het binnenhalen van de start van Dakar. Het land gaat ervan uit dat het een veelvoud daarvan terugverdient.

Ferreyros: "De Dakar Rally zal in 2018 van start gaan in Peru. We zullen een investering doen die gelijk is aan het bedrag van een aantal jaren geleden. We zijn er nu al mee bezig, om te zorgen dat we de beste Dakar krijgen die Zuid-Amerika ooit heeft gehad. Uiteindelijk hopen we zo’n $300 miljoen dollar te verdienen aan de rally. Dit verwachten we te bereiken door de huisvesting, transport en eten en drinken voor de Dakar-karavaan en de impact die alle internationale media-aandacht op het toerisme in Peru zal hebben."

De Dakar Rally voerde in 2012 en 2013 al door Peru.

klopt vanuit marketing-technische overwegingen, ik zou het ook doen als Dakar-strateeg. Paar jaar geleden tekende de Senegalese regering wel al protest aan tegen het blijvende gebruik van de naam 'Dakar'. Voor mijn part gaan ze hiervoor naar het gerecht..maar ja om eerlijk te zijn er zijn grotere... [Lees verder]

    Weg...foetsie! Al zal de terrorisme dreiging in de Sahara woestijnen ooit verdwenen zijn dan nog zal de organisatie van de Dakar rally niet meer teruggaan naar Afrika. Landen in Zuid-Amerika zijn namelijk bereid flink geld erin te steken én de markt daar is veel groter. Ik zeg inleveren die 'Dakar' titel en inwisselen voor wat anders wat passend is bij het Zuid-Amerikaanse continent.

    Al 10 jaar wordt de mooiste en zwaarste rally ter wereld niet meer in Afrika gehouden...het continent waar deze rally bij historie hoort en waarvan de beelden altijd zo puur en mooi waren. Komt nooit meer terug jongen! Om te huilen.

      Voor een deel wel met je eens.... Dakar en de naam (vroeger natuurlijk nog Parijs - Dakar) zijn voor mij ook onlosmakelijk verbonden met de Sahara en niet met Zuid-Amerika. Maaarrrrr Dakar is niet alleen meer die stad in Senegal, maar het is een merk geworden en dat merk is ook onlosmakelijk verbonden met de zwaarste rally ter wereld, dus een naamsverandering zal niet gebeuren omdat de organisatie zich dan financieel in de voet zou schieten. Daarom is de Afrika rally (die afsplitsing toentertijd) ook nooit echt van de grond gekomen. Je zou het Rally de Latinas kunnen gaan noemen, maar daar loopt waarschijnlijk niemand warm voor.....

    Noem het de ZA Rally, Dakar ligt nl in Afrika, daar waar ze thuishoren.
    Wat hebben we dit jaar nu toch gezien behalve uitgevallen ingekorte proeven en de fabrieksteams .
    NEEEEEE, aub 20 jaar terug in tijd toen was het mooi, met die echte amateurs die moesten vechten om budget rond te krijgen en daarna vechten om de rally tot goed einde te brengen.
