Despres pakt leiding in tweede etappe, Ten Brinke valt terug

Het eerste weekend van Dakar 2018 zit erop en bij de auto's lijkt er weinig veranderd te zijn in vergelijking met 2017. Nasser Al-Attiyah won in zijn Toyota de eerste proef, maar moest de leiding in het klassement op de tweede dag afstaan aan Cyril Despres in de Peugeot.

Etappe 1: Lima naar Pisco

De eerste etappe had 242 kilometer aan verbindingsroute, terwijl de tijdproef slechts 31 kilometer lang was. De fabrieks-Toyota's kwamen het beste uit de startblokken in Peru en bezetten de eerste twee plaatsen. Nasser Al-Attiyah en navigator Matthieu Baumel hadden een kleine 22 minuten nodig om de proef af te ronden en waren daarmee 25 seconden sneller dan Bernhard ten Brinke en Michel Perin. De verrassende nummer drie van de dag was Peruviaan Nicolas Fuchs, die met navigator Fernando Mussano in zijn Borgward slechts 34 seconden trager was dan Al-Attiyah.

Verrassend genoeg kwamen de Peugeots totaal niet in het stuk voor. Titelverdediger Stephane Peterhansel was de beste Peugeot op de elfde plaats, Despres en Carlos Sainz volgden op posities 15 en 16, terwijl Sebastien Loeb meer dan vijf minuten verloor en 27ste werd. Daarmee was hij trager dan Peter van Merksteijn (21ste) en maar nipts sneller dan Maik Willems en Erik Wevers (28ste en 29ste).

Etappe 2: Pisco naar Pisco

In de tweede etappe sloeg Peugeot echter keihard terug. Op de proef van 267 kilometer greep Despres de macht. Samen met navigator David Castera was de Fransman 48 seconden sneller dan Peterhansel en Jean Paul Cottret. De top 3 werd afgerond met de derde Peugeot van Loeb en Daniel Elena, die al meer dan drie minuten achterstand hadden.

Al-Attiyah gaf bijna een kwartier prijs op Despres en verloor de leiding in de tussenstand aan Despres. In het klassement staat de vijfvoudig winnaar bij de motoren een half minuutje voor op Peterhansel, terwijl Giniel de Villiers de beste Toyota is op de derde plek. De Zuid-Afrikaan staat echter al ruim vijf minuten achter op Despres.

De Nederlanders hadden niet hun beste etappe in Pisco. Ten Brinke was de beste op de tiende plaats (negende in het klassement), gevolgd door Van Merksteijn op positie zeventien, Willems op plek 44, Wevers op plaats 54 en de gebroeders Coronel als 57ste.

  Zo vraag ik me wel eens af waarom ik op een F1 site enorm veel lees over Max, ook niet F1 gerelateerde dingen.
  
  Is toch leuk in een tijd van stilte rond de F1 dat er aandacht word besteed aan dit soort evenementen?

  Zou mooi zijn als ze tijdens de wintermaanden hier ook de aanbiedingen van AH, Lidl, Edah, Plus en vooral Jumbo zouden vertonen, hoeven we niet meer eerst naar betreffende sites te surfen. ;)
