Barreda gooit uitgeput handdoek in de ring

Na de etappe van dinsdag werd ook de elfde etappe gekenmerkt door een uitvaller in de top van het klassement bij de motoren. Nadat in etappe 10 Adrien van Beveren kort voor het einde van de etappe uitviel, was het woensdag de beurt aan Joan Barreda Bort.

De nummer twee uit het algemeen klassement kwam enkele dagen geleden in de zevende etappe al ten val en blesseerde daarbij zijn knie. Desondanks wist Barreda die etappe nog wel te winnen.

De Spanjaard probeerde het nog even, maar woensdag moest de coureur dan toch de handdoek in de ring gooien. Na de zware etappe van dinsdag was de motorrijder te uitgeput om de elfde etappe uit te rijden. In de beginfase reed Barreda al snel verkeerd, week van de route af en kwam zelfs in een dorp terecht.

Ook Stefan Svitko moest de strijd staken. De Slowaak kwam dinsdag nog wel over de finish, maar had erg veel last van zijn schouder na een zware val. De coureur ging daarom woensdag niet meer van start. Svitko stond achtste in het algemeen klassement en dus vallen er twee rijders weg uit de top tien bij de motoren.
