Nikolaev bijna zeker van eindzege bij de trucks

Eduard Nikolaev heeft de eindzege bij de trucks in de Dakar-rally bijna binnen. Nikolaev was de snelste bij de trucks en zag Federico Villagra wegvallen. Villagra begon de etappe met slechts een seconde achterstand op Nikolaev, maar kreeg gedurende de proef te maken met een probleem in de versnellingsbak. Het lukte niet dat probleem op te lossen, waardoor Nikolaev in de komende etappe alleen maar hoeft te finishen

De tweede plaats in de proef was voor Airat Mardeev, die op vijftig seconden van Nikolaev binnen kwam. Martin Kolomy finishte als derde, maar zijn achterstand bedroeg meer dan vijf minuten. Sairhei Viazovich kende een minder goede etappe en finishte op bijna een half uur van Nikolaev. Desondanks staat Viazovich nog steeds tweede in de tussenstand.

Voor Ton van Genugten was het ook een mindere dag. De Nederlander, die al drie keer zegevierde in deze editie van Dakar, kende technische problemen en kwam niet voor zonsondergang binnen. De andere Nederlanders lukte het ook niet om voor het donker binnen te komen.

De laatste etappe vindt vandaag plaats en wordt verreden rondom het Argentijnse Cordoba.
