Van den Heuvel slaat over de kop en moet de strijd staken

Voor Maurik van den Heuvel is Dakar 2022 voorbij. De Nederlander stuiterde in de zevende etappe iets te hard over een aantal heuveltjes en verloor daarbij de controle over zijn truck. De vrachtwagen begon te slingeren en sloeg uiteindelijk over de kop.

Van den Heuvel en de overige bemanningsleden konden nagenoeg ongedeerd uitstappen, maar hun Scania raakte dusdanig beschadigd dat ze hun weg niet meer konden vervolgen. De driekoppige crew bezette de negende plek in de tussenstand bij de vrachtwagens.
