Timo Scheider pakt pole, Albers verslaat Ralf Schumacher

Timo Scheider heeft vanmiddag de snelste tijd gereden in de kwalificatie voor de eerste DTM-race van het seizoen. Audi's goede vorm wordt bevestigd door de tweede tijd van Mattias Ekstrom. Op de tweede rij vinden we de twee Mercedessen van Bruno Spengler en Paul di Resta.

Held van de middag wordt DTM-debutant Oliver Jarvis. In een Audi van vorig jaar bereikt hij de top acht-shoot out door nipt vijfvoudig kampioen Bernd Schneider te verslaan. Het verschil bedraagt uiteindelijk vijftien duizendsten van een seconde.

Gary Paffett is de best geklasseerde coureur met een oude Mercedes op de tiende plek. Ralf Schumacher komt zelfs niet eens door het eerste deel van de kwalificatie heen. Zijn laatste ronde zag er goed uit, maar op het laatste moment werd zijn tijd verbeterd door Christijan Albers, Olivier Jarvis en Alexandre Premat. Schumacher start de race als vijftiende, direct achter Christijan Albers. Voormalig Champ Car ster Katherine Legge komt in haar eerste DTM optreden niet verder dan de laatste plaats op drie seconden van de snelste.
