Audi verbaasd door eigen competitiviteit

Bij Audi is verbaasd gereageerd op hun dominantie in de openingsrace van het nieuwe DTM-seizoen. Het Duitse merk nam met Mattias Ekstrom, Timo Scheider en Tom Kristensen het hele podium in beslag. Concurrent Mercedes had alleen Paul di Resta die zich in het gevecht kon mengen, maar de Schot kon het Audi-feestje niet verpesten.

Ekstrom had niet verwacht dat het zo makkelijk zou gaan. De ontwikkeling aan deze Audi A4 was goed, maar het verbaasde mij dat we zo snel zouden zijn. Ik kan de bochten precies aansnijden zoals ik het wil en de auto stelt me nooit voor negatieve verrassingen. Ik heb altijd geroepen dat mijn Super Touring Car uit 1999 de beste auto was waarin ik heb gereden, maar ik denk nu dat deze A4 de overtreffende trap is.

Wolfgang Ullrich, motorsportbaas van Audi: We hebben een compleet nieuwe auto ontwikkeld en de basis is geweldig. Maar misschien hebben we alleen voor Hockenheim de juiste snaar gevonden. Dat weten we bij de volgende race, we moeten in ieder geval blijven werken. We hebben een sterke tegenstander en we mogen niet verslappen.
