Paul di Resta pakt eerste pole voor Mercedes-Benz

Paul di Resta heeft vanmiddag op de Lausitzring de snelste tijd gereden tijdens de kwalificatie van de DTM. De voormalig Formule 3 Euroserie-kampioen vertrekt morgen vanaf pole position en zorgt daarmee voor het eerste kwalificatiesucces van Mercedes dit seizoen. Tevens doorbreekt hij de hegemonie van kampioenschapsleider Timo Scheider, die alle voorgaande wedstrijden vanaf pole mocht aanvangen.

Scheider leek op weg naar een nieuwe pole, maar was uiteindelijk niet opgewassen tegen de tijd van de Schot. Di Resta: "Ik wil het team graag bedanken, want zo goed als nu is de auto nog niet geweest. Keer op keer als ik naar buiten ging konden we de auto verbeteren en een snellere tijd rijden."

De tweede startplaats is voor Bruno Spangler en maakt daarmee het succes voor Mercedes compleet. Timo Scheider start als derde, naast regerend kampioen Matthias Ekstrom. Scheider: "We wisten dat dit circuit moeilijk voor ons zou worden. Paul heeft het dit keer heel erg goed gedaan. Ik denk dat we wel iets sneller hadden kunnen zijn, maar niet snel genoeg voor de pole denk ik. Ik ben best tevreden met de derde plek."

Mugello-winnaar Jamie Green start als vijfde, voor Tomczyk, Kristensen en Bernd Schneider. Ralf Schumacher start in de 2007-Mercedes als dertiende, Christijan Albers een plek daarachter.

Matthias Lauda trainde met een 1:19.339 oorspronkelijk de veertiende tijd voor Christijan Albers, maar moet door zijn straf achteraan starten.
