Bruno Spengler pakt pole position op Norisring

De pole position voor de DTM-race op de Norisring is een prooi geworden voor Bruno Spengler. De Canadees leidt het Mercedes trio en wordt gevolgd door Jamie Green en Paul di Resta. De Canadees, die dit jaar nog niet wist te winnen, werd met twee minuten te gaan nog een plek teruggezet door Green, maar pakt hem nog geen 30 seconden later weer terug.

Spengler: "Ik ben blij, het werd tijd dat ik eens op pole terecht kwam. Mijn ronde was goed en ik heb geen fouten gemaakt. Nu maar hopen dat de race net zo goed gaat."

Kampioenschapsleider Timo Scheider is de beste Audi-coureur op de vierde plek. In het tweede segment is hij nog de snelste, maar kan dat uiteindelijk niet doorzetten. Scheider: "Ïk ben een beetje teleurgesteld dat ik de tijd in Q2 niet nog een keer kon rijden, maar dat hoort erbij. We hebben hard gewerkt om hier meer competitief te zijn dan in voorgaande jaren. We kunnen racen met de jongens vooraan."

Martin Tomczyk en Le Mans-winnaar Tom Kristensen vullen de derde startrij, terwijl Bernd Schneider als zevende van start gaat, naast regerend kampioen Mattias Ekstrom.
