Kwalificatie ingekort na zware regenval, Kristensen op pole

Tom Kristensen heeft in een enerverende DTM-kwalificatie op de Nurburgring de pole position gepakt. De sessie werd geplaagd door hevige regenval en na een crash van Mike Rockenfeller halverwege Q2 werd besloten de sessie niet meer te herstarten. Het DTM-reglementen zegt dat het laatste complete segment van de kwalificatie de startopstelling bepaalt. Kristensen start dus vanaf pole en ook Rockenfeller heeft veel geluk: hij mag ondanks zijn crash als tweede aan de wedstrijd beginnen.

Er zijn echter ook coureurs die minder blij zullen zijn: bijna alle 2008-Mercedessen starten buiten de toptien, terwijl kampioenschapsleider Timo Scheider als negende van start gaat. Bernd Schneider beleeft nog een angstig moment als hij tegen het einde van Q1 de ingang van de pitstraat mist. Hij weet de auto zonder schade binnen te brengen.

Christijan Albers kan niet profiteren van de listige weersomstandigheden en start als zeventiende, waarmee hij een Audi-groepje aanvoert met verder nog Oliver Jarvis en Katherine Legge.
