Heidfeld en Glock stonden stand-by voor DTM-seizoensopener

Nick Heidfeld en Timo Glock hadden kansen om komend weekend de seizoensopener van de DTM te rijden. De twee Duitsers stonden op stand-by voor de eerste race, omdat de reguliere coureurs Paul di Resta en Gary Paffett nog vastzaten in China.

Paul di Resta en Gary Paffett zijn beide reservecoureurs voor respectievelijk Force India en McLaren, maar racen ook nog altijd in de DTM voor Mercedes. De Duitse toerwagenklasse start dit weekend aan het 2010-seizoen, maar het was eerder deze week nog niet duidelijk of Di Resta en Paffett wel naar Duitsland zouden kunnen komen vanwege de problemen in de luchtvaart.

Heidfeld, de reservecoureur van Mercedes, en Glock, racecoureur bij Virgin, hadden het geluk dat ze vrijwel meteen vanuit Shanghai naar huis konden vliegen in tegenstelling tot Di Resta en Paffett. Omdat het voor Mercedes niet duidelijk was of beide DTM-coureurs komend weekend wel in Hockenheim konden zijn, riep het Heidfeld en Glock op als reserves.

"De DTM voor dit weekend was een deel van het 'reddingsplan van Mercedes", vertelde Glock. "Ik heb al jaren een goede verstandhouding met Norbert Haug en Mercedes en ik had ze graag uit de brand willen helpen. Ik voelde me wel vereerd dat ze mij vroegen om te rijden."

Komend weekend start het DTM-seizoen in Hockenheim en daarvan zal F1Today.nl uiteraard uitgebreid verslag van doen, evenals de races van de Formule 3 Euroseries.
