Mercedes domineert in Hockenheim, Audi kent dramarace

Mercedes is het nieuwe DTM-seizoen op een uitstekende manier begonnen. Gary Paffett leidde de race vanaf de elfde ronde en was daarmee sterker dan drie Mercedes-collega's. David Coulthard pakte in zijn eerste DTM-race een twaalfde plaats.

Martin Tomczyk pakte in de eerste ronde de leiding over van polesitter Paffett en hield deze positie vast tot aan de elfde ronde. Op dat moment kreeg de Audi-coureur echter een lekke band en Tomczyk spinde spectaculair in de eerste bocht. Hierdoor pakte Paffett de leiding over en gaf deze niet meer weg gedurende de race.

De grootste bedreiging na het wegvallen van Tomczyk was Audi-coureur Mattias Ekstrom. De Zweed was erg snel, maar omdat hij zijn eerste pitstop één ronde te vroeg had gemaakt moest hij een extra pitstop maken. Jamie Green pakte de tweede plaats hierdoor over, maar in de 32e ronde werd hij verschalkt door teamcollega Bruno Spengler. Paffett was echter te sterk en spaarde op het einde van de race zelfs zijn materiaal nog.

Spengler kon daardoor tot op een halve seconde naderen, maar moest genoegen nemen met de tweede plaats, terwijl Jamie Green het podium compleet maakte. Paul di Resta zorgde ervoor dat Mercedes de eerste vier posities pakte. Mike Rockenfeller was de snelste Audi op de vijfde plaats, gevolgd door Mattias Ekstrom, Timo Scheider en debutant Miguel Molina.

Ralf Schumacher eindigde net buiten de punten op de negende plaats, terwijl David Coulthard zijn eerste DTM-race op de twaalfde plaats eindigde.

  Tja dat vraag ik mij ook af behalve dat hij 12e is geworden wil ik weten hoe het gedaan heeft.

Coulthard deed duidelijk erg voorzichtig, vooral bij de start. Erg slim om eerst eens rustig alles op je af te laten komen. Gaandeweg kwam er meer snelheid in en reed hij een beheerste race. Ik moet wel zeggen dat door de strategie hij \"nog\" 12e is geworden en niet door zijn snelheid. Voor een eerste race prima gedaan iig.Maar vooral Molina was voor mij een opvaller!
