Audi en Mercedes juichen terugkeer BMW naar de DTM toe

De kans dat BMW terugkeert naar de DTM in 2012 wordt steeds groter. Enkele maanden geleden doken er al geruchten op dat de Beierse autofabrikant wel oren had naar een terugkeer en gisteren bevestigde BMW Motorsportbaas Mario Theissen dat BMW inderdaad deze mogelijkheid openhoudt.

Al sinds enkele jaren zijn Mercedes en Audi de enige twee fabrikanten in de DTM nadat Opel er enkele jaren geleden mee stopte. Audi-baas Wolfgang Ullrich hoopt dat BMW uiteindelijk de stap maakt naar de Deutsche Tourwagen Masters. "Namens iedereen van Audi wil ik nu al zeggen: 'Welkom in de DTM'. We kijken er erg naar uit om een nieuwe concurrent uit München te begroeten en ik weet zeker dat ze meteen competitief kunnen zijn."

Ook de motorsportbaas van Mercedes, Norbert Haug, kijkt uit naar een terugkeer van BMW. "Dat zou geweldig nieuws zijn, niet alleen voor de DTM maar voor de hele autosportwereld", vertelde Haug. "Het onderstreept dat de beslissing van Audi en Mercedes om in de DTM te blijven rijden een goede beslissing is geweest. Anders had deze mooie raceklasse niet meer bestaan."
