Rosenqvist vervangt Ocon bij Mercedes

Felix Rosenqvist stapt bij Mercedes in voor de DTM-ronde op de Moscow Raceway, van 19 tot en met 21 augustus. De Zweed is de vervanger van Esteban Ocon, die zich stort op een carrière in de Formule 1. Rosenqvist was al test- en reserverijder voor de DTM-tak van Mercedes. Hij schreef in 2014 en 2015 de prestigieuze Formule 3-race in Macau op zijn naam.

Hij is tevens uittredend Europees kampioen Formule 3, won in 2013 de Masters op Zandvoort en eindigde eind juli van dit jaar nog als runner-up in de 24 uur van Spa. Rosenqvist: "De kans om te mogen racen in de DTM is opwindend voor mij. Ik behoor al jaren tot de Mercedes-familie en dit was altijd een van mijn voornaamste doelen. Het wordt een grote uitdaging, halverwege het seizoen instappen in zo'n competitieve klasse. Ik weet dat ik me een snelle leerling moet tonen."

"Echter, het feit dat ik al bij het team rondliep in de hoedanigheid van test- en reserverijder zou de overgang moeten bespoedigen. Ik ben Mercedes-AMG dankbaar dat ik eindelijk mijn kans krijg. Ik kan niet wachten om in Moskou het circuit op te rijden."
