Hogere kijkcijfers en meer bezoekers voor DTM

ITR, de overkoepelende organisatie van de DTM, kan met een goed gevoel terugkijken op de eerste helft van het seizoen 2016. De toerwagenklasse liet iets hogere kijkcijfers noteren, terwijl het bezoek van de races met zes procent omhoog ging ten opzichte van vorig jaar.

Het weekend op de Lausitzring was een uitschieter met 67.500 bezoekers. BMW-motorsportbaas Jens Marquardt: "De fans vormen de ruggengraat van de DTM. Zij zijn een grote motivatiebron voor onze rijders om het maximale uit zichzelf en uit hun auto's te halen. Tegelijkertijd bewijst de toegenomen belangstelling voor de DTM dat we op de juiste weg zijn met ons format."

ITR-bestuurslid Florian Zitzlsperger: "We zijn heel blij met deze ontwikkeling. De maatregelen die we genomen hebben om de DTM te versterken, beginnen effect te sorteren. Ons product overtuigt tot nu toe, alle races waren spannend en zwaarbevochten. Dat is precies wat de fans willen zien en dat is ook de reden dat we halverwege dit seizoen positief gestemd zijn."
