Mattias Ekstrom dominant op pole position op Nürburgring

Mattias Ekstrom heeft zojuist voor Audi de pole position opgeëist op de Nürburgring. De Zweed was maar liefst vier tienden sneller dan Mercedes-coureur én kampioenschapsleider Bruno Spengler. Jamie Green kwalificeerde zich als derde.

Ekstrom was in het laatste deel van de kwalificatie echt een klasse apart. De Audi-coureur was met zijn 1:23.817 maar liefst 0.395 seconden sneller dan Bruno Spengler. De kampioenschapsleider was de snelste Mercedes-coureur in de kwalificatie en eindigde vlak voor teamgenoten Jamie Green en Paul di Resta.

De verwachte dominantie van het complete Audi-team bleef dus uit met vijf Mercedessen in de top-zes. Ook Gary Paffett en Ralf Schumacher kwalificeerden zich namelijk bij de beste zes. Miguel Molina was knap de tweede Audi-coureur op de zevende stek, gevolgd door regerend kampioen Timo Scheider. Oliver Jarvis en David Coulthard completeerden de top-tien, terwijl Martin Tomczyk niet verder kwam dan de elfde tijd.
