Maxime Martin kondigt zijn vertrek bij BMW aan

Maxime Martin stopt na vijf jaar als fabrieksrijder van BMW in de DTM. De Belg is toe aan een nieuwe uitdaging. Wat hij nu gaat doen is nog niet bekend, zoals ook nog niet duidelijk is wie hem op zal volgen. Joel Eriksson en Philipp Eng worden genoemd als kandidaten. Waarschijnlijk onthult BMW morgen bij de afsluiting van het autosportjaar 2017 de DTM line-up voor 2018.

Daar zal Martin in elk geval geen onderdeel van uitmaken. De Belg liet weten: "Ik heb een geweldige tijd bij BMW achter de rug, waaronder vijf jaar als fabriekscoureur. Daarvoor reed ik al twee jaar in een BMW van Marc VDS Racing. Ik ben dus zeven jaar aan het merk verbonden geweest. Samen hebben we geweldige successen gevierd, zoals overwinningen en podiumplaatsen in de DTM, winst in de 24 uur van Spa-Francorchamps en tweede plaatsen in de 24 uur van de Nürburgring."

"Ik wil Jens Marquardt, Adam Baker en Rudi Dittrich bedanken. Zij geloofden in mij en stelden me vijf jaar geleden aan als fabrieksrijder. Soms heb je gewoon een verandering van omgeving en een nieuwe uitdaging nodig. Daarom ga ik nu op zoek naar een nieuw avontuur, maar mijn tijd bij BMW is fantastisch geweest en ik ben iedereen dankbaar die daaraan bijgedragen heeft."
