Audi ontsloeg Premat wegens deelname aan New York Marathon

Alexandre Premat werd enkele maanden geleden ontslagen door Audi en mocht tijdens de laatste races van het DTM-seizoen niet meer in actie komen. Audi vertelde destijds dat er veel meningsverschillen waren, maar tegen het Britse Autosport vertelde Premat dat hij ontslagen is vanwege zijn deelname aan de New York Marathon.

Premat kende een zeer harde crash in Adria, waarbij hij meerdere malen over de kop vloog. De weken erna moest hij van Audi verplicht herstellen van deze crash, maar de Fransman nam in deze periode deel aan de New York Marathon. Dat was voor Audi de druppel en ze ontsloegen Premat. Hij zit momenteel nog zonder stoeltje voor 2012, maar zet zijn zinnen op een contract bij BMW, die volgend jaar terugkeren naar de toerwagenklasse.

"Mijn doel is om in 2012 terug te keren naar de DTM", vertelde Premat tegen Autosport. "Ik hou van het kampioenschap, ik vind de auto's geweldig en ik vind het een leuk format. Alleen BMW komt er nog bij, dus ik zal contact met ze gaan opnemen. Ik heb vier jaar ervaring in de DTM, dus misschien is het voor hen goed om een coureur met veel ervaring in de DTM vast te leggen."
