Audi domineert kwalificatie op Misano, Frijns naar P4

Audi lijkt het DTM-weekend op Misano te gaan domineren. René Rast leidde een trein van vier bolides uit Ingolstadt tijdens de kwalificatie op het Italiaanse circuit. Robin Frijns vertrekt als vierde.

Rast noteerde een 1:25.294, die hij al reed in de eerste run. Daarna koos de Duitser ervoor om niet meer naar buiten te komen, mede door de hoge verwachte bandenslijtage op Misano en het lage aantal sets banden dat er beschikbaar is voor de twee races dit weekend. De tijd van Rast bleek wel goed genoeg om merkgenoot Jonathan Aberdein nipt voor te blijven. Voor Aberdein en WRT was het de beste kwalificatie ooit in het DTM.

Ook de volledige tweede rij wordt bezet door Audi. Loïc Duval reed de derde tijd op twee tienden van Rast, terwijl Frijns een tiende daarachter de vierde tijd reed. Pas op de derde rij vinden we de eerste niet-Audi's terug: Sheldon van der Linde en Bruno Spengler zorgden ervoor dat BMW niet helemaal vanuit de achterhoede hoeft te komen. Met Phillip Eng staat er ook een BMW op de zevende positie.

Aston Martin heeft het vooralsnog lastig in haar eerste DTM-seizoen. De beste bolide van het Britse merk staat op de dertiende positie. Jake Dennis was daarvoor verantwoordelijk, maar hij gaf wel anderhalve seconde toe op Rast. Precies een rij daarachter, op P15, staat gastrijder en debutant Andrea Dovizioso. De MotoGP-coureur valt in voor Pietro Fittipaldi, die alsnog zijn opwachting maakt door ziekte van Jamie Green.

Grappig dat een MotoGp coureur het beter doet dan ervaren AM rijders.

  AM heeft nog een lange weg te gaan om de snelheid van Audi en BMW te evenaren, om over de betrouwbaarheid nog maar te zwijgen. Bovendien is Dovi wel een absolute topcoureur natuurlijk ;)
