Bruno Spengler tekent voor zevende seizoen bij Mercedes

Bruno Spengler zal ook komend seizoen bij Mercedes in de DTM rijden, zo maakte de Duitse fabrikant vandaag bekend. De Canadees gaat al aan zijn zevende achtereenvolgende jaar bij Mercedes beginnen. Vorig jaar streed hij tot de laatste race mee om de titel.

Spengler maakt al sinds 2003 deel uit van Mercedes toen hij werd opgenomen in het juniorprogramma. In 2005 maakte de Canadees zijn DTM-debuut en een jaar later al werd hij gepromoveerd naar het fabrieksteam HWA. "Ik ben erg blij dat ik mijn zevende DTM-seizoen kan beginnen met Mercedes-Benz", vertelde Spengler.

"Ik heb afgelopen winter bijna een maand in Canada doorgebracht om mijn batterijen weer op te laden en me voor te bereiden op het nieuwe seizoen. Je hebt nooit garantie op succes, zeker niet in een klasse als de DTM, maar ik ga dit jaar alles geven wat ik heb."

Mercedes' motorsportbaas Norbert Haug voegde daar aan toe: "Met zijn 27 jaar is Bruno nog altijd een jonge coureur, maar ook al een veteraan binnen Mercedes-Benz. Hij wordt elk jaar beter en 2011 zal ons negende seizoen samen worden. Bruno is niet alleen een van de snelste coureurs in het DTM-veld, maar ook zeker een van de aardigste en populairste bij de fans."
